About
the Portcullis

The
'Porty' - as it's affectionately known - was built
around 1961 as a replacement to the Red Lion,
which was demolished to make way for new flats.
The Lessees, George and Lorraine Williams,
have had a long association with the Portcullis
as George has now worked there for 29 years! More
recently, in 2002, the couple took over the pub's
lease and now along with 16 friendly staff members
take care of it full time. Lorraine, Arbroath
born and bred, also has a history with the Portcullis
as her own father Larry had a personal hand in
building the pub.
Only a 10 minute walk from the Arbroath Abbey,
where the famous Declaration of Arbroath was signed
in 1320, the Portcullis has a warm and welcoming
atmosphere, and is popular with all age groups!
The Pub is a four bar outlet
- the Camelot Cocktail Lounge, Castle Suite, Games
Room and Public Bar.
Surroundings are comfortable and a friendly
welcome is assured at all times by the regulars
and staff!

Widely
recognised as a community pub with a strong focus
on football, in more recent years the Porty has
formed strong connections the Arbroath Football
Club.
In the summer months the pub offers a great place
to relax and the annual 'Seafest' provides a focal
point for the seafaring activities around the
harbour and surrounding areas. Winter months and
cold nights see the Castle Suite's fire glow with
heart warming hospitality.
Many visitors spend their lunch breaks at the
Portcullis. Food is served from a main menu
and specials board and the pub is particularly
busy when the food offer is in operation.
The pub also has a very enthusiastic sports following
and shows all important matches on the two large
plasma and digital
screens.
The Portcullis has a
real community spirit - having been
awarded the 'Sports Bar of the Year' and 'Community
Bar of the Year' - twice in a row!
The pub supports and sponsors 2 Football teams,
3 Pool teams, Mens and Ladies Darts teams as well
as the local Domino team. The Porty Hill walking
Club also has a long standing history with the
pub.

Next
time you're in the area, pop in and experience
the warm and friendly atmosphere in person, the
pub's standards are excellent and dining is always
an enjoyable experience. The menu offers
traditional meals with something to suit all tastes.
If you're in the area it's well worth a visit,
and you won't be disappointed. George and Lorraine
both look forward to seeing you at the Portcullis!
